Education

Undergraduate

I attended Siena College in Albany, NY where I studied Economics and played division one soccer. Around my junior year, I started to focus heavier on living a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, I was taking a behavioral economics class where I was learning why people behave the way they do. My personal experiences and interest in expanding my knowledge led me to pursue my next step in my career which was my masters degree.

Master’s Degree

I moved home to Syracuse, NY to further my education in nutrition science and dietetics. Some of my favorite classes I took were biochemistry (metabolism of macronutrients & micronutrients), medical nutrition therapy, and nutrition counseling. I loved learning how to use food as medicine to optimize metabolism, gut health, and overall energy. I also loved learning the skills needed to help others navigate the real life barriers that can get in the way of achieving health goals. After two years of my master’s degree, I continued to have a desire to help people turn the nutrition science into simple daily habits and lifestyle changes.

Dietetic Internship

After I completed my master’s degree, I stayed at Syracuse University to complete my dietetic internship. If you are not familiar, to become a registered dietitian, you need to complete over 1,000 hours of supervised practice experience focused on the nutrition care process. I completed my rotations in community nutrition & education, food service, long term care, acute care, and private practice nutrition counseling. It was a special opportunity to stay close to home and give my time back to those in the Syracuse community while also gaining practical hands-on experience as a soon to be registered dietitian.

Board Certified Exam

After completing the necessary coursework and supervised practice hours, I was able to sit for the registration examination for dietitians. After passing this exam, I (finally) received the Registered Dietitian (RD) credential!

This new certification now gives me the opportunity to pass my knowledge onto you! I’ve loved the community I have built so far on @sophs.clean.eats and I am excited to continue growing and inspiring others to make small daily steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
